Meet the candidate

•March 23, 2009 • Leave a Comment
Well, I did a blog entry last week introducing you to my campaigns team. I think it’s about time you lot got a brief intro to the candidate, me! Karen “Ginge” Asbury.

  • A wee bit about me

Firsly, the obvious. I’m Karen Asbury and I’m known to my close friends as Ginge.  I’m a journalism student & a workaholic. I take pride in the fact that I am different. I was always taught that to follow the crowd, was a sign of weakness, and so I  i’ll always choose originality over what’s common. You may/may not find that a good quality, but my experience has shown me that new thinking keeping things fresh. And when doing previous work on placements at magazines, and also on assessment at university, it was originality that have won me big points. I don’t believe in changing things for the hell of it, but I am a strong believer in that everything and everyone deserves an input and an opinion.

  • Experience

I have put an enormous amount of hours into student media, and I did it for one reason. Because I wanted to.
For the same reason, I’m running for Media Officer. I love writing, publishing, filming, editing, the lot. If you want to read a little more about my relevant experience for this position, read my manifesto here.

  • Voting

Voting only takes one minute. You should have received an e-mail with a 2 part unique number to your UCLan email address. You just pop that number into this address and select who you want for each role. Simples.
Any questions, just e-mail me at kasbury@uclan.ac.uk or message me on facebook.

There are 3 days left of voting. It closes at midnight on Thursday so no matter what position/which canidate you are voting for, just make sure you vote. The Union is there for you, so voting is your best chance of getting what you want out of it.

I’ll be out and about every day until voting closes. Hopefully I’ll see you around campus =]

Voting is open!

•March 20, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Voting is officially open everyone!

Just in case you haven’t been told, voting was declared open at 1 minute past midnight, and will last until next thursday.

Please please vote asap as me for your #1 choice for Media Officer.

If you are not sure on how to vote or haven’t received any e-mails about voting, please click here

Every vote counts & I really do appreciate all the support I am receiving. Whatever suggestions/interest you have for student media, let me know & I will take it on board.

It was also Question Time today (or yesterday, depending when you when to bed!) and you can see my speech below. I was super duper nervous and it was hotter than holy hell in the Atrium, but I gave it my all, and I meant every word. I really want this position and am certain that if elected, I could do a damn good job.

That is why you must vote ginge! Tomorrow (or later today) I will be posting a bit about me. Last week I gave you a short intro to my campaigns team and some of my best friends here at uni, and I think it’s about time you met ginge, your future Media Officer…hopefully!

Campaigns week begins!

•March 17, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Campaigns week is finally here & it’s time to get the momentum going.

You should have so far received at least one email to your Groupwise webmail notifying you that the elections are coming up. Also, you will be receiving if you haven’t already, a message with an individual code on it. DO NOT DELETE THIS. This is your unique number that you can vote with.

Any info you’d like on voting, check out the official elections page on the links bar to the right —->

Voting opens just at midnight on Thursday night (Well…technically, it’s 00:01 on Friday morning) so make you sure vote Karen as #1.

If you haven’t received an e-mail, or if you have any Q’s whatsoever, please please, feel free to message me.

I will be out this week, Promo on Thursday. Me and my team will be wearing the Vote Ginge t-shirts and every bit of orange clothing we can find. If you want to join in, please do so! Let me know you will be there. We’ll be making a gallery afterwards, so I’ll get you tagged! =]

Please please, keep adding people to the facebook group and let people know I’m running. I genuinely want to make student media better, and I really think I can do so.

Also, keep checking back to my blog. I’m going to be updating lots more, and daily now!

It’s business time! VOTE GINGE! =]

Meet the team

•March 12, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Campaigns week is nearly here & we’re getting ready to bombard the clubs and pubs with our ginger wardrobes and stickers.

So it’s about time you met the team eh? Here’s the crazy lot you’re most likely to spot with me next week on nights out and just generally following me around ;]

Holly “Little Time” Atkinson

After stalking me for about 2 years now, Holly has become my best bud and now, my Campaigns Manager.
So Holly, why are YOU voting ginge…“I was forced”  Aww bless. How sweet.

Jeni “Burrrr” Gilston

Jeni is a bad boy racer and has an unhealthy obsession with Meatloaf and Nick Pitera. She  has Ginger roots so she’s on the team…
Jeni Burr, why are YOU voting ginge?…”I’m a closet ginge and need to help build our army.” Good answer.

Kerry “Kezmeister” Taylor

Kerry will be campaigning in the smoking huts near you! You can’t miss her. She loves her ‘rave jewellery’ and is fluorescent on most nights out.
Kezmeister, why are YOU voting ginge? “Karen taught me how to cook salmon so I owe her one”

Ben “Benny” Hobson

Benny is our news-loving, shorthand extraordinaire who will ask you if you’re alreet in his charming Bolton accent.
Benjamin, why are YOU voting ginge? “I just heart gingasauruses”

Ken “Bundy” Pridham

Ken, or ‘the ham of prid’, was not available for comment. So I’m just gonna assume he’s voting ginge because …he’s a clever boy, and knows it’s the right decision =]

And then there’s me, the candidate. But you’ll have to come back for that one. I’ll be posting more about why you should vote for me, next week, campaigns week. Bring it on!

The future’s bright, the future’s GINGE!

After a normal exhausting and uneventful day at university, it was a pleasure to see the following post on the wall of my Facebook Group when I got in:

Josh Homme. David Caruso. Annie.
Along with greatness, what do they all have in common?
Do the right thing.
VOTE GINGE

Excellent!

A fantabulous quote from my buddy Ben Hobson =]

This week, I’ll be introducing you to my campaigns team, so keep checking back on the blog.
The t-shirts are in the making, posters are finally up in certain areas around campus (despite the tricky rules not allowing us to place posters on windows, what’s that all about?!) so keep your eyes peeled, and watch out for us next week in town.

And don’t forget….VOTE GINGE.

Media Queen in the making

Just doesn’t get more ginge than that does it?
